KWAZULU-NATAL – On Thursday 20 September 2022, Donava Naicker (49) and Elaine Naicker (52) who are Directors of Aqua Transport and Plant Hire briefly appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court for fraud as well as corruption.
During 2010 to 2013, Aqua Transport and Plant Hire Pty Ltd, was awarded a plant hire contract to supply plant to the upgrade of the road in Nongoma area. Stephen Cahi who was an engineer allegedly inflated the plant hire hours, as a result the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport was defrauded R1,679 068.93.
A case of fraud and corruption was reported at Pietermaritzburg police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation. Cahi and Vasuthevan Naicker were arrested last week for the same charges.
They were released on R10 000-00 bail each and the case was postponed to 12 October 2022 where they will appear simultaneously.
