Five firearms recovered in Gingindlovu, five suspects in custody

Yesterday, the King Cetshwayo Cluster, Public Order Police, Tactical Response Team and National Intervention Unit embarked in a clean-up operation at Umlalazi area, Eshowe as part of the Safer Festive Season Operations. The team were following up information at Thintumkhaba area about suspects involved in a robbery that took place at Umlalazi area, Eshowe. They managed to arrest three suspects aged between 32 and 36 for business robbery. It is alleged on 4 December 2017, at 20:30, a group of unknown suspects entered the business premises at Umlalazi area, Eshowe and demanded cash. The victim managed to escape and lock himself at the business premises. The suspects robbed the patrons of their belongings before fleeing the scene on foot. They will appear in court next week.

The team also went to Dokodweni area, Gingindlovu, where they arrested a 32-year-old suspect for being in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunitions. A 31-year-old suspect was also arrested for possession of drugs at Obanjeni area, Mthunzini. He was found in possession of 56 pockets of loose dagga and mandrax. Other three unlicensed firearms were also recovered by the police during the operation. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in any commission of the crime in the country. The two suspects appeared in the Gingindlovu Magistrates Court yesterday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the team for apprehending the suspects involved in the business robbery and the recovery of unlicensed firearms. The results of these operations demonstrates that the police in the province are dedicated to removing criminals who are terrorising our communities. These operations will continue in the King Cetshwayo Cluster and surrounding areas and we can expect more arrests in the run up to the festive season, he said.
