Benoni Flying Squad successes

GAUTENG - On Tuesday 06 September 2022, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested six (06) suspects, recovered one (01) firearm, robbed items and motor vehicle parts.

On Tuesday at around 12:30, the first incident occurred after Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Juan-Mare Eksteen received information of a white Ford Bantam used in a business robbery in Tembisa. While on route to the alleged address members came across a vehicle matching the description and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The Bantam did not stop and a chase ensued. The vehicle with four (04) suspects inside was brought to a stop in Freedom Drive, Ivory Park and the occupants contained. A thorough search led to the recovery of a 9mm Norinco pistol with serial number filed off and four (04) live rounds of ammunition. Cigarettes, airtime machine and cellphones to the estimated value of ten thousand Rand (R10 000.00) as well as an undisclosed amount of cash taken in a business robbery from Tembisa were also recovered. The suspects in their early thirties were immediately arrested and the evidence booked in at Ivory Park SAPS.

Alert members patrolling Kingsway Road next to Daveyton at around 20:30 came across a white Hyundai H100 with and two (02) occupants. The vehicle was stopped and a search conducted. The vehicle was loaded with stripped vehicle parts including a Toyota Hilux engine belonging to a courier company in Benoni agricultural holdings. The two (02) were interviewed and could not give any valid explanation as to where the parts were coming from, going to or their ownership. They were immediately placed under arrest and the vehicle with parts impounded.

Investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects aged 30 to 36 years will be appearing in the local magistrates courts facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen goods.
