Accused convicted, double life sentence for rape and murder of his mother

KIMBERLEY – A man accused of raping and killing his own biological mother, was handed a double life sentence by the Northern Cape High Court.

Justice prevailed on Friday, 04 November 2022 when Paul Conradie (39) learned his fate regarding the murder and rape of his biological mother.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, has welcomed the unanimous decision taken by the Department of Justice and the National Prosecuting Authority to remove the accused from society, by handing down a double life term imprisonment sentencing for the rape and murder of his own mother.

“Justice has been served, the country is currently facing a scourge of gender-based violence. I am confident that the sentence will deter criminals committing crimes against women and children”, says General Otola.

According to the evidence which was led in court, it emerged that on Saturday, 02 February 2020 at approximately 20h00, the accused and the victim were sitting together consuming homemade ginger beer. Later the accused raped and murdered the victim and he was arrested on Sunday, 03 February 2020, after the police were informed about the incident.

Warrant Officer Attie Browers, from the Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was assigned to investigate the case.

The National Prosecuting Authority and the investigating officer successfully opposed bail and the accused was remanded in police custody until the finalisation of the trial.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended Warrant Officer Attie Browers for his exceptional investigative work.
