Sterling investigative work results in harsh conviction

King William's Town: Violence against women and children will remain a priority for the SAPS and detectives from the South African Police Service will ensure that they conduct thorough investigations that will lead to the successful prosecution of those involved. This was proven, yesterday, Thursday, 8 November 2018, by detectives from Uitenhage Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, when they ensured that an offender was sentenced effectively to eight years imprisonment. The accused, Brandon-Lee Brown (25-years-old) offered to walk the 32-year-old victim home on 30 September 2017 at 22:20 in Uitenhage. As they were walking, Brown suddenly pushed the victim and she fell on her back and he raped her. The victim reported a case of rape and the commitment displayed by the dedicated team of police officials resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect soon after the crime was committed.

On Thursday, 8 November 2018, Brandon-Lee Brown was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment by the Uitenhage Regional Court on a charge of rape. The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll commended the investigating officer for the effective manner in which he performed his investigations. Brigadier Koll said: "This conviction and the sentence installed by our courts are as a result of a collaborative working system between the prosecution and the SAPS".
