SOUTH AFRICANS URGED TO MARCH TUESDAY TO SUPPORT NO CONFIDENCE MOTION AGAINST PRESIDENT ZUMA

JOHANNESBURG, The Democratic Alliance (DA), the country's biggest opposition party, has called on all South Africans to take part in marches Tuesday in support of the motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma taking place that day in the National Assembly in Cape Town.

Speaker Baleka Mbete has not yet communicated her decision on whether voting will take place by secret ballot.

DA spokesperson Phumzile van Damme said Sunday that the party had planned to organize marches all over the country to ensure that every person who wants to do so can take part.

The DA encourages people from all political affiliations to come out in their millions when the National Assembly debates the motion of no confidence in Jacob Zuma; while the main march is in Cape Town, DA marches will be held in all nine provinces. We must stand up against corruption and get rid of President Jacob Zuma and his Cabinet, she added.

Meanwhile, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation has called on civil society to either be part of, or start their own events in support of what they call "National No Confidence Day". The Kathrada Foundation will, alongside other civil society groups, take part in various events under the umbrella of FutureSA.

Adding to the call for Jacob Zuma to step step down is AGANG-SA. The party's MP and acting president, Andries Tlouamma, says whether the motion of no confidence in the President is done via secret ballot or not is immaterial to them.

In 2015, Tlouamma withdrew a motion of no confidence because he lost a court bid to have it carried out by secret vote or to prevent Speaker Mbete from presiding over the debate. Tlouamma says that this time round, it will not make a difference to them.

It doesn't make any difference to us, we are going to vote in favour of the motion. We have expressed how we feel regarding President Zuma. Whether it is secret or not, our vote is in favour of the motion so we can remove this incompetency of leadership in our country.
